Dear future client,
Dear future client,
When I decided to make this pivot in my career and focus on coaching
creative business leaders I did a lot of thinking. I was clear on what I
wanted to do, how I wanted to do it and who I wanted to do it for. My
plans were easy to put together in that I had clarity of purpose.
And so here I am.
Oliver Russell – Someone with one hell of a lot of experience in the
creative industries ready to share all that good stuff with other
creative businesspeople in an effort to help them achieve their goals
in a way that I could have benefitted from earlier in my journey…until
I’d worked out how I might do the same.
The Power of Chat, Fun, and Evolution
I like to chat, always liked to chat, always felt that there was nothing
that couldn’t be worked out with honest, engaging, and open chat because
great chat takes you away from the seriousness of the problem and
becomes inspiring, enjoyable…it becomes fun, and fun is the key to all
things creative, strategic, and purposeful I believe.
All the issues I have faced in my career (and there have been many)
have largely been solved through chat of some sort and the evolution
that results from talking with the right people in the right way.
So, my approach to this new coaching business of mine could be summed up
as CHAT, FUN, EVOLVE.
Enjoying Running Your Business
This is of course not limited to our businesses but in our lives in
general. When we work together you will notice that I take a total
approach to my clients…remember the thing you first saw when you came to
the website?
“Enjoy running your business”
I really do believe in that truism about when you have a job you enjoy
you don’t work a day in your life – although I don’t think whoever first
coined the phrase had spent numerous late nights arguing with the art
department about typography while trying to finalise a presentation for
an 08.30 breakfast pitch.
To enjoy running your business you need to be enjoying your life as a
whole I think.. enjoyment doesn’t mean your business isn’t successful in
a Profit and Loss way – you can be successful while not enjoying it (hands up
anyone?)
I think what I mean when I say this is that you have enough peace,
fulfilment and drive to make it through the day without wanting to
relocate to Nepal to live as a goat.
Now those of you thinking to yourselves…”hmmm, sounds a bit
lightweight, more like a children’s entertainer / yoga teacher than a
proper business coach”, let me be clear.
Your business is serious..err..business and I take that very seriously.
I just believe that the approach we take to dealing with all the
challenges you face in that serious business can be approached through a
collaborative, enjoyable and most of all human way.
Common Business Challenges
We can talk about many things that you face. Shall we have a list?
N.B. I’m going to try really in this blog and in all my comms not to do
lists or top 5 things or playbooks or frameworks or endless
statistics all the stuff you’ll never have time to read even if you
were in the slightest bit interested – we’ll save the serious stuff for
our sessions – you can make your own lists then but as this is my first
blog let’s talk about some of the things you might be thinking about….
Strategy and market position
Growth plans
Scope Creep
Time management
Talent acquisition and retention
Market challenges
Investment
New Business
Just a cheeky eight I chose at random from a list of many more.
The Personal Impact of Business Challenges
In addition to all that business stuff you may also be dealing with your
own response to these challenges…I feel another list coming on (damn!)
Overwhelmed
Stressed
Lonely
Financially pressured
Decision paralysed
Work/life balance? HA!!
Fear of failure
A slightly less cheeky seven from a list I know very well indeed and the
real inspiration behind why I’m writing all this to you.
How are you supposed to deal with the first list while struggling with
the second? How are you supposed to enjoy running your business when its
all really just too much? How do you get back that feeling of excitement
and joy you had on day one?
You need to understand the business arguments of course – more focussed
pitches perhaps? better ways to incentivise talent maybe? A clearly
defined mission and strategy to get there possibly? All of these good
things but how you approach them and in what frame of mind should be
addressed to.
How Can I Help?
Of course, I will tell you that as well as having a really experienced,
knowledgeable person (who knows all the frameworks and strategies to
help you with a fresh perspective to goal setting, problem solving,
business building and will hold you accountable to the plans you make
together you should also have someone you can turn to for personal
development, inspiration, motivation and make it fun maybe!
If you’d like one of these chats that I’ m so keen on why not book my complimentary intro meeting.
We’ll have fun, get to know each other and who knows maybe even evolve a little bit…and
If you’re in Brighton we could even have coffee and cake!
I look forward to speaking with you soon.
Oliver
